Judjie Good bye August 18, 2009
I was saddened to hear that Elph had passed.  I always refered to him as the pun man when speaking of him as I did often.   He was a quick wit and always ready to share in a pun contest.  Anything Goes has not been the same since he left.  I know that he loved the fact that he had been married for so many years to the love of his life.  He did agree to marry me however, when I made my first million....pogo tokies... that is many years ago.   Hopefully he is still punning for fun with the one that he loved.

sammer To Elph April 8, 2008
I will miss Elph so much. He was always there in the "anything goes" chat room. He was so knowledgeable..you could ask him anything. He had been everywhere. He always had a witty reply. Wit and simplicity = elegance. Your father was a very elegant man. I am sad  he is gone from here. My sincere condolences. sammer
Valkyrie Papa March 27, 2008

I only recently heard of elph's passing. (how can he be anything but 'elph' to us?)

I've been trying to compose a message of condolence that would be as eloquent as some of the earlier messages but, finally, can only speak what is in my heart.  I was offline for quite some time, helping during the illness and passing of my own Father, returning only to hear of elph's passing.  It breaks my heart to think we'll never again hear the wisdom and wit of that wonderful man.  A long time ago he told me that he "looked sort of like Ernest Hemmingway"...and from then on, I began calling him "Papa".  I hope Papa's heavenly abode is in the vicintity of my Dad's...I think they'll like each other and will keep each other entertained.   I believe I'll see them both again some day.  My deepest, most heartfelt condolences to Norman's family...your pain is shared by a lot of people.

Thanks to cbe who has kept me informed of norms condition for the past few months. I started my pogo whomping career in 2001, and just happened into Anything Goes. I spent my first 4 years there and didnt play anything else. Why, you ask, cause you could always depend on elph being there. I was one of the many chatters throughout this time, and i wish i had a quarter for all the times i asked elph, what that meant. The man was a fount of information. Anything at all you ever wanted to chat about, elph was right in there, enjoying the fun. For the past 3 years, i have traveled all over pogo but still went back to the old room to see and chat with elph for a few minutes. I once asked elph why he never joined club pogo. His reponse was simple, "why should i spend the money, when is the only place i go". Made since to me. Elph was a fine man, and without a doubt, the absolute best person i have ever met on pogo. i wish i could have known him personally. Good bye elph, and i'll see you someday.

When "my" whompin' room shut down 4 yrs. ago (yes Elph, bet it WAS those varmit gophers), I went in search of a new niche.  I found it in AnythingGoes & 'Elph' was one of the first to make me laugh & feel welcome.

Borrowing from his past vocation, I sought Norm's guidance & advice as I researched my quest for the perfect "retirement home on wheels".  His preference being of course, Winnebagos  lol ......which he recommended to me in the last e-mail I received from him.

As I read: kind....gentlemanly....witty....sweet....knowledgeable....'punster'....

understanding....funny....respectful......I will add, unforgettable to the tributes for this wonderful person.  Good bye Norm, you will be missed.

Your father was such a great gentleman and friend to all who had the privlege of knowing him.  He was one of the first ones I told I had cancer and he never made me feel sad about it or pitied me! He made me laugh and politely put up with my flirting!  I was "off" line during my treatments and did not hear about his first fall until I came back to word whomp.  Through him I met some very special people who will be life long friends.  God bless you both and take some peace knowing that your father is with the Lord and probably in some deep philosophical debate with Him right now!  He will be sorely missed.

Shaun, I am sorry to hear about your dad.  Travis called me  and told me Norman was not doing very good.  Your dad always treated me with respect and he was very understanding. I will keep you and your sister in my prayers.

So sorry for your loss.  I shall miss him a lot.  He was one of the first people that I met in Word Whomp.  He was kind, funny and always had a pun or 2 to share.  We loved teasing him about his Gainsville football team.  He was happy when they won and sad when they lost.  He will be deeply missed both by me and by many others.
linnw11 My friend - ELPH ~ HIMSELPH March 9, 2008
Norm (Elph) was the first person I ever met online about 4 years ago.  He encouraged me and helped to keep me laughing during a very hard time in my life.  I dubbed him Elph~Himselph and we e-mailed a few puns back and forth.  We would challenge each other - to write poetry on the spot - him starting the lines and me trying to rhyme and finish his thought.  We always had so much fun.  He kept word womp - AG-50's interesting!  I will greatly miss our friendship and his punning ways.  Heaven will be brighter because our star is there!  Linda

I met " elph64 " or Norman, in Pogo's Word Whomp in 2001. My screen name then

was littledarlingxox. This screen name broke " elph " up right away, and from that

moment on we became " kibitzing pals.'  (Trading puns & jokes).

We were trying to work out a way for me to mail him some Canadian whiskey, but

after some thought we did not wish to be arrested as Terrorists for shipping

explosive stuff, lol.  We sent a few emails to one another, but our closeness was

in Word Whomp - Anythinggoes 50+ -. At one time we even had a webpage with

photos submitted by all.... he submitted Hemingway's photo...

It is hard to believe that Elph or Norm has as they say crossed over, but without a

doubt, Norm left his mark on a lot of people. To me, and quite a few others, he

will always be remembered for his quick wit, knowledge, and being a true

Gentleman !  Rest well, Norm or Elph, Heaven's gain is our loss.

Adios Amigo

Uncle Norm always made me laugh. My first time to the ocean, Uncle Norm went out with me in the water with Aunt Nancy by side. His feet got cold and his toe curled under. He always joked about that everytime I talked to him after that. He was a great man with a great mind and a huge heart.
Uncle Norm Thank You March 5, 2008
