This is classic Norm, notable in that he wrote this the weekend he 1st had trouble (last Labor day)

Subject: Re: WHAT A CROCK
I have a dichotomy re the stars and bars. I don't understand why the south can't see that it is a symbol of an ill considered ill advised and losing venture and I feel that liberals and blacks overreact to the slavery aspect. In the final analysis it is simply a historical artifact imbued only with the good or evil in the minds of the beholders. As for Sabin I will only say that Tebow just threw for 238 yds and 3 TDs in the spring intrasquad game and I think Meyer is as football savvy and a better motivator. First game on Sept. 1

I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, we had great times chatting with our love of Gators, other football, sports & politics.

One measure of his endearment, popularity, etc was that since Labor Day (we talked about big game, that was our last chat) there's been at least a few dozen on line asking me, Beth, Lynne, etc if we saw or heard from "Elph"

What a guy! To him I say Semper Fi! To you and his family my deepest thoughts & condolences. Let me know when his suffering is over and I'll go out on my porch and do a good imitation of Cpl. Pruitt (Montgomery Clift) playing Taps (in From Here to Eternity)!

My best to you, Chuck Haas

I remember going to my first elegant brunch buffet in an upscale hotel in Minneapolis with Dad and Mom. Dad spent some time pointing out little details about the place that made it so refined. The service was wonderful and the food a delight. It was the first time I'd ever had an omelette made to order, and I was tickled to share this with my folks.

My father was fond of the finer things in life. Good coffee and smooth dark chocolate. Yet he was never a snob about things. He was just as fond of spam and eggs with green peppers and onions. A taste he acquired in the marines.
